Jobs and Internships

Internships

SpeakEasy internships are an excellent way to gain real world, hands-on experience in a Boston theatre company. Our work environment is supportive and open, exposing all interns to the multidisciplinary art of theatre management, including the rehearsal and production process, community outreach, and general management. As such, we are happy to offer free tickets to our shows and events during all internships and also recommend attending other company events when possible.

Arts Administration Intern

In addition to gaining exposure to the management of a mid-sized theatre company, the Arts Administration Intern will gain valuable hands-on experience in stewarding high-level supporters and VIP contacts, interacting with corporate sponsors, building relationships with audiences and volunteers, and preparing grant applications.  This intern will learn how to conduct theatre outreach on a personal and an organizational level by assisting with donor appeals, learning about cultivation of relationships with foundations and government agencies, and hosting special events.  Candidates with a passion and love of theatre, excellent writing skills, and a gregarious, outgoing, and enthusiastic personality will be the best fit for this position. Please apply by email to Julie A. Otis, Director of Development at info@speakeasystage.com.

You’ll also learn how to work with the press to ensure your show gets maximum exposure, including photos, preview articles, reviews, and features. In addition, you will be on the front lines in the public relations efforts, including community building and outreach, educational efforts, and charity donations. We are looking a motivated people-person with experience using Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word. The ideal applicant will have a basic knowledge of the common social networking devices such as Facebook and Twitter and will possess superior writing skills. Some graphic design experience is preferable. Please apply by email to Jim Torres, Director of Marketing, at info@speakeasystage.com.

This includes auditions and casting, dramaturgy and literary management, season development, and general administrative duties. Candidates must possess a good knowledge of the Boston/New York theatre scene, superior organizational skills, and an ability to take the initiative easily. Excellent writing, phone, and computer skills are preferred. Please apply by email to Paul Daigneault, Artistic Director, at info@speakeasystage.com.

Special Events Intern

Are you known as the “host with the most” (or the “hostess with the mostest")? Do you throw killer parties that everyone wants to go to? Are you a social butterfly who loves theatre and wants to meet the movers and shakers in the industry? Apply to put your talents to the test as SpeakEasy Stage Company’s 2009-2010 Special Events Intern.

The Special Events Intern is a crucial part of our team, supporting the parties, galas, behind-the-scenes events, and fundraisers that bring SpeakEasy supporters and talent together. Events during the 2009-2010 season include our annual Benefit Gala at the Hyatt Regency Boston, opening night parties, the Subscriber Open House, the 3rd annual show of “Sorry Wrong Number”, and many post-show events, including our Out & About nights, held the first Friday after every show for our LGBT audiences and friends. You’ll gain valuable experience in catering coordination, invitation design & execution, auction management, outreach and relationship building, and overall event management, all while meeting the amazing people who support and work with SpeakEasy Stage and the Boston theatre community.

Candidates who are detail oriented, well organized, and very outgoing with excellent speaking skills will be the best fit for this position. Please apply by email to Julie A. Otis, Director of Development at info@speakeasystage.com.
