SpeakEasy Miscasts Boston’s Top Talent for Benefit
Concert
August 21, 2007
(BOSTON) – Imagine seeing a production of DREAMGIRLS
in which it’s Kathy St. George telling you “I’m
Not Going.”
Or listening to Leigh Barrett ascend
the heights of “Bring
Him Home” from LES MISÉRABLES while dressed
as the heroic Jean Valjean?
Would Argentina ever stop her tears
if it were Boston’s
high-flying, adored Will McGarrahan belting “Don’t
Cry For Me” from EVITA?
And what kind of “Memory” will
you be left with after watching Christopher Chew ascend
to the heavyside layer while singing CATS?
The answers to these questions and
more will soon be revealed when SpeakEasy Stage presents “SORRY, WRONG NUMBER,” a
benefit concert showcasing Boston’s top talent performing
songs from roles in which they would never be cast.
This special event, based on the Manhattan
Class Company’s
annual fundraiser “Miscast” will be held October
1st and 2nd in the Roberts Studio Theatre in the Stanford
Calderwood Pavilion at the Boston Center for the Arts,
539 Tremont Street, in Boston’s South End. Curtain
is at 7:30PM.
Ticket prices are $60 ($30 for students with Stage Source
members) with all proceeds going to benefit SpeakEasy Stage.
“SORRY, WRONG NUMBER is going to be a night unlike
anything Boston theatergoers have ever experienced,” promises
SpeakEasy Producing Artistic Director Paul Daigneault. “The
show is going to give some of Boston’s top talent
a chance to really cut loose and try songs they have always
wanted to perform. While I know some performers are going
to do some serious numbers, I can tell you others are aiming
for way-over-the-top. I guarantee you it’s going
to be a special evening – and a whole lot of fun.”
